Our forebears and their beliefs are part of the web of history that has made
us and our nations what they are today. Genealogy research helps us see that
history close-up and personal, putting flesh on the bones of the history books.
Their journey should be recorded forever.
MyRootsPlace is an ideal place to set out the basics for this study. The
Tree is a framework. Since genealogy without evidence is fiction, the serious
researcher can add evidence citations and notes about people, research progress
and vital events. Images and transcripts of the documents can be added in the
Media section and linked to the relevant people. Photographs of people and
places can be added under Media, and also linked to people and places.
Gravestone photographs can be added in the Media Headstones area and linked to
the people and the cemeteries.
MyRootsPlace is already a populated world. Using the site Genealogy search,
you may find that some relatives are already here. You can see charts of
ancestries and descendants. You can save family group data as PDF files. You
can search for people in documents already posted and transcribed using the tabs
at the top of the page. As GNIS location co-ordinates are entered for places
you will be able to see maps showing where life-paths took our people.
Since genealogical accuracy and consistent presentation are important to the
site owner and co-editors, gedcom files cannot be uploaded. This is a
collaborative effort, and your contributions will endure. We have prepared
some how-to guides and some additional guidelines below. If you have any problems you can use the ‘Shout' box on the Home page,
and ‘Chat' for more extended conversation. There are also brief ‘Help'
pages for each entry/edit page that just might have the answer.
Our Tree navigation is in the Main Menu under Genealogy, Documents, and Media.
To Begin using our tree click on Administration and you will be taken to your admin page.
Once in admin, you can add new people, edit people, add families, add sources and more.
To view your tree on the frontend, click browse surnames under the genealogy tab.
Search for the person or family you've entered!
Hints & Guidelines:
- Register for both accounts with the same username and password, making future visits easier.
- Always check the "keep me logged in" box.
- Always allow popups on this site or you will not be able to use your admin panel. We don't have popup ads.
- In your genealogy admin panel there is a help section for each function, called "help for this area".
- Remember that this is a "Collaborative Public Tree"
- Use our Bookmarks feature to retrieve your pages quickly!
- Please do not add copyrighted materials or dates of birth for living individuals, instead use the word "living" as their birthdate.
- When adding new people, places, sources etc, please check to see if the entry is already there to help avoid duplication.
